Dear Sister Kristina,
Well, I sure hope you had a wonderful birthday. We thought about you all day long and it was a weird feeling. Somehow I kept thinking that because it was your birthday, you were going to be calling home so we could facetime you. I mentioned that to Leah and she said she had the same feeling all day long. haha But you didn't call, so we celebrated by having the special plate out at dinner and we made Apple Crisp for dessert with vanilla ice cream. It's definitely starting to feel like fall here.
I hope you got your package from us yesterday so it was in time for your birthday, but if not, it should be coming on Monday. It's so fun to put things in there for you, so I hope you really enjoy it!
Today at church Colin Ray gave his homecoming talk. Can you believe that? It seems like he just left, but he sounded so good and learned so many lessons while on his mission. He started out by speaking with an Australian accent, then said he was just kidding and that he didn't have an accent at all, but actually while he was speaking you could really hear bits of an accent. It was fun. He talked about being very humbled while on his mission and realizing that he needed to pray to find out what Heavenly Father wanted him to do, not pray for Heavenly Father to do things for him. He spoke of so many life lessons and his testimony especially of the Book of Mormon was so strong. Of course, the whole Ray clan was there…tons of grandkids now. :) The four daughters all sang the musical number.
This has been a bit of a different week for us. Kirk called dad on his birthday, but it wasn't a birthday call. Kirk wasn't feeling well so he was asking dad questions. He had pain in his belly and it didn't seem to get better at all. So he went to an urgent care and they thought it was kidney stones but couldn't see anything on the ultrasound. Kirk was still in pain through the night and dad told him to go back the next morning. They re-tested his urine and still couldn't see anything, so they told him to go to the hospital and get a CTscan in the afternoon. They didn't get the results to the CTscan until 6pm when they told him his appendix was perforated. Dad thought for sure they'd operate on him that night, but the surgeon said he would wait til the morning. Dad was not happy and couldn't get hold of anyone. So in the morning Kirk had his appendix taken out and the surgeon said it was way worse than he had thought so it took quite a while. Sarah said the surgeon said it was a mess in there. (Well, he waited so long to operate, that's why it was a mess…) So they had Kirk stay another night in the hospital. Nicole and Charmaine had to come and help out with Addie since Sarah had to work and also needed to be at the hospital with Kirk. It was so nice that they were there for her. Kirk got to come home Saturday and we talked with him today and he says he's feeling better each day, but it feels like someone punched him in the gut. He's going to go back to work Tuesday.
I don't like being so far when something like that happens. I told Sarah I was only a 45 minute flight away if she needed me there. Of course, I'd jump on the chance to go take care of Addie!! Anyway, we're happy that Kirk is healing and feeling better.
When we talked with them today Kirk said that Addie is starting to throw little tantrums on the floor now. Of course, we think it's cute, but they probably don't. I'm so happy I get to be a Nana in a time when we have facetime.
For dad's birthday we went to the movies and out to lunch in the middle of the day, which was lots of fun. We gave him some new cologne, some funky socks to wear with his suit or any time and a gift certificate to Williams Sonoma. And it was so fun for him to get a text message from Camilo sending a birthday wish from you!!! That was awesome. And then tonight dad heard from him again. Sounds like he's taking care of you on your birthday. Can't wait to hear the details.
Now we're gearing up for Leah's birthday and she's already published a list. Here it is:
Would you remind me of the name of the perfume that you like that Leah is talking about on her list.
Leah has decided to be a Ninja turtle for Halloween, so she already has a onesie and wore it to Albertson's last night. She posted this pic on Instagram. Nikki can't decide what to be and is starting to panic a little bit. Kirk and Sarah and Addie are all coming here for Halloween week and we're so excited. It will be so fun going trick or treating with Addie and having her in our home. I even have a little basket of fun toys for her to play with in the family room. So Nana of me! I love that Addie says Nana when she sees me now too.
As you can see my little world is totally wrapped up in my family, but I love it and that's really why you're out there teaching others about the great joy the gospel can bring to their families. Keep up the great work, be humble and ask Heavenly Father how you can change to bring about His work.
Have a great birthday week and enjoy being 20. You're a beautiful 20 year old, inside and out.
Love you,
Mom xxoo
